Acupuncture is an ancient practice that many people have experienced to get relief from a variety of conditions. Using thin wires called "needles" as the main form of treatment, this is a very relaxing experience. When applied by a skilled practioner into specific points along energetic flows called meridians, conditions ranging from the physical such as chronic or acute pain to mental emotional disorders like depression can be releived. Acupuncture has also been used For women's issues such as puberty or menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia pain, or anxiety/depression. Other conditions such as weight issues or appetite control have also been helped using acupuncture.

What to expect:
When receiving an acupuncture treatment, it is advisable to wear loose fitting clothing or be prepared to remove some articles of clothing if restrictive or in the areas being treated such as the low back or neck region. The client is asked to lay down on a massage table and remove socks and shoes. After diagnosis of the condition by tongue and pulse as well as taking a history of the condition, the practitioner will select the specific points to place the needles. The needles are sterile, stainless steel, single use and are disposed of after the treatment.  They are never re-used in our clinic. The duration of the treatment varies depending on the condition but usually expect to dedicate one full hour to the entire treatment. Afterwards, the client may eat a light meal later that day and drink plenty of water to ensure the proper flow of energy is not disrupted.  Having a driver is not required, although you may feel very relaxed.  It can take a couple of days to feel the full benefits of a treatment.

How many treatments is required to alleviate a condition?
Most chronic conditions require a fair trial of at least 10 weekly sessions although many conditions can be greatly releived after four weekly treatments. In the case of an acute condition such as twisting an ankle or muscle strain or soreness, usually a much shorter treatment schedule is required. Many clients continue to use acupuncture on a monthly basis as a method of stress releif and to stay in balance.
